Beautifully styled and run, Onguma The Fort is a one-of-a-kind property
With a nod to Namibia’s colonial past, Onguma The Fort is a “must-stay” for those who love luxury experiences in unique settings
Found on the eastern side of the Etosha National Park, Onguma The Fort is built in a traditional colonial style to replicate one of the old German forts that used to be a common feature in Namibia. One of the park’s most luxurious properties, it is a truly unique spot and a worthy addition to any Namibia itinerary.
The 13 suites are all uniquely styled and spread well apart from one another, offering a wonderful feeling of privacy when you are relaxing in the suite. They are all air-conditioned with minibars, indoor sitting areas and large private decks where you can relax in the afternoons and even enjoy private dinners should you wish. The bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers, the latter boasting stunning views out across the park. The main area of the lodge continues the theme of space and privacy, with plenty of little areas where guests can escape one another should they wish, but equally it has a very convivial feel to it, especially in the bar and lounge area. Meals can be enjoyed inside or out on the deck and the quality and variety of the cuisine is always one of the most striking features of a stay at The Fort. The swimming pool is set on a deck which looks out over the bush and has plenty of sun loungers, so guests can relax here in the afternoons and soak up the sunshine. There is also a small spa where guests can enjoy a variety of massage treatments in between safari activities.
Whilst it is a good base for self-drivers, the beauty of The Fort lies in the quality of the guides that work there and the range of activities on offer. Guided game drives in the Etosha National Park, bush walks and sundowner drinks drives are all on offer and the experience of the guides greatly enhances the pleasure of exploring from the lodge.
