Saruni Samburu

A stunning eco-chic safari lodge with some of the best views in Kenya

One of our favourite lodges in Kenya

Six gorgeous contemporary 'villas' are carved into the hillside with lofty views down over unspoilt Samburu

One of Kenya’s most spectacular luxury lodges, incomparable views and endless safari options makes Saruni Samburu one of the best places to stay in the country. The six luxury villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular panoramas over Kalama Conservancy and Mount Kenya. The only lodge in over 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness teeming with wildlife to explore exclusively, the experience at Saruni Samburu is intimate and truly exceptional.

The villas are carved into the rocks on three sides making you feel at one with the hills. Inside, the extraordinary interiors come with comfortable wrought-iron beds (and attractive mosquito net frames over the top), as well as bespoke furniture and dreamy ensuite bathrooms. Not to mention the 100-mile views of the Samburu plains from the wooden platform decks. Kudu house, the central lodge, is very similar. There are two infinity pools and incredible restaurant decking – all created to take advantage of the views. Food here is hearty and tasty, using local flavours and often an Italian twist. Guests are treated to picnic bush breakfasts by the Ewaso Niro River, as well as bush dinners in a dry riverbed surrounded by firelight and Samburu dancers. Private dining can also be arranged on your villa deck, perfect for a special occasion!

Having access to 200,000 acres of exclusive territory offers endless opportunities to explore under the expert guidance of the Samburu warrior guides on day or night drives, as well as bush walks and visits to the nearby hide which overlooks a watering hole (very popular with elephants). For relaxing between adventures there's the delightful Samburu Welling Space, which of course comes with fabulous views. Star-gazing and visits to the local village can also be arranged, and there's also a small shop on site for those all-important souvenirs.

The Saruni team are also behind nearby Saruni Rhino - a pioneering rhino tracking experience in Northern Kenya. Operating from nearby Sera Conservancy (a couple of hours from Saruni Samburu), a limited number of Rhino Tracking permits are available daily allowing guests to join a team of expert walking rangers, and track black rhino in the bush. It's the first and only experience of its kind in east Africa. Tracking takes place in the morning, so a two night stay in at Saruni Rhino is needed, and combined with Saruni Samburu it makes for a safari experience of a lifetime.
