About Far & Wild
Our mission is to make every holiday special. We will do this whilst specifically aiming to minimise the environmental impact of our activity and maximise our opportunity to influence others to do the same.
Our specialist says:
Enjoy a true family adventure in the wilds of Botswana, as well as spending some time at Victoria Falls. A wonderful combination, perfect for landmark family adventures.
Your family adventure to Botswana will start off with a few nights in Victoria Falls, one of Africa’s icons and the perfect place to start this trip, with a myriad of activities to enjoy. From there you will fly deep in to Botswana’s Okavango Delta before heading on to the Makgadikgadi Pans, a stunning area and the perfect spot to round off the trip.
By starting at Victoria Falls you will have the opportunity to relax or explore as much as you please. You will be staying a short drive from the Victoria Falls themselves, as well as the thriving little town which is a lovely spot to explore. Whether you are enjoying activities on foot, on the Zambezi River or taking to the skies there really is something for everyone in the adventure capital of Africa. Next up is the stunning Okavango Delta, which you will explore in the company of a private guide from your own camp, meaning your experience can be completely tailored to what you want to do, creating the ultimate wildlife experience. Your final stop on this trip will be the breathtaking Makgadikgadi Pans, a simply wonderful part of Botswana which contrasts completely to the experience you will have had in the Delta. Walk with Bushmen, see meerkats frolic at sunrise, explore on quad bikes or try and spot the region’s varied and surprisingly abundant wildlife – the choice is yours and this really is a wonderful addition to any family safari.
Covering an incredibly diverse range of regions and including an amazing array of experiences, this trips is incredibly rewarding for families with children of all ages and will create shared memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 Flying to Victoria Falls
This evening you will be flying overnight from London Heathrow to Johannesburg with British Airways, connect on to Victoria Falls early tomorrow morning.
Day 2 Victoria Falls
On arrival in to Victoria Falls you will be met and transferred out to the lovely Victoria Falls Safari Suites where you will be spending the next 3 nights. You can relax in the comfort of your suite or head out to relax by the pool at the adjacent lodge. With plenty of space for the 4 of you, superb food and warm, natural hospitality, this is a great base for families in The Falls, allowing you plenty of privacy but with excellent facilities available close by.
Day 3 Exploring The Falls
Of course, you will want to enjoy plenty of activities during your visit to The Falls, so we can help plan your days out before you go to maximise your time when you are there. Early mornings are perfect for helicopter rides over The Falls and the Zambezi River, whilst the afternoons are the preferred time for many to do cruises along the Zambezi as the sun sets over the bush. In between you can enjoy walking tours of The Falls, gorge swings, bungee jumps and everything in between.
Day 4 Some time to relax
In between your time exploring there will be ample time to relax and enjoy the surroundings of the lodge. The swimming pool has amazing views out over the bush and there is a very good spa with a range of treatments available. If you are looking to enjoy some more activities then we can help to arrange a game drive in the Zambezi National Park which is a great prelude to the adventures to come in Botswana. This is a truly magical place to spend a few days and you certainly won’t find the time here hard to fill.
Day 5 On to the Okavango Delta
After breakfast you will be transferred by road in to Botswana and on to Kasane airport for a light aircraft flight deep in to the Okavango Delta. From the airstrip you will be transferred to your private camp – Footsteps Across the Delta – where you will be spending the next 3 nights. After some time to settle in you will sit down with your guide and plan your time exploring this veritable wildlife paradise. As the camp is taken privately you are free to explore and spend your time as you please.
Day 6 Wildlife galore
The Delta is renowned as being one of the most wildlife-rich areas on earth and your guides will help you to maximise your time here and see everything that you want to during your stay. The core activities are game drives, guided walks and mokoro canoe safaris, so the camp offers a hugely varied range of ways to explore. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, wild dog, cheetah, giraffe and a range of plains game will be spotted during your stay, as well as abundant birdlife.
Day 7 Relax and explore
In between activities you will have ample time to relax in the comfortable surroundings of the camp and enjoy the warm, natural hospitality for which the hosts are renowned. Every effort is made to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible and the excellent food belies the remote location and simple nature of the camp. Sundowner drinks by remote lagoons, bush meals and fresh-baked bread from an underground oven are all common features and hugely popular with guests at Footsteps.
Day 8 Flying to Makgadikgadi
After a final morning safari and breakfast in the camp you will be transferred back to the airstrip for a short flight to Maun where you will connect on to the Tsigaro airstrip in the heart of the Makgadikgadi Pans. From the airstrip you will enjoy a spectacular drive to Camp Kalahari where you will be spending the next 3 nights. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the swimming pool and enjoy the views out across the shimmering salt pans that surround the camp before sundowner drinks by the camp fire.
Day 9 Exploring the pans
There are so many activities to enjoy from the camp that your time here will be incredibly busy and exhilarating. The “signature” activity is the dawn trip to spend time with the colonies of habituated meerkats found close to the camp and this is one of the most delightful experiences you could wish for. There will also be the chance to walk with San Bushmen and learn about their fascinating way of life as well as take a quad bike over the seemingly endless expanses of the pans.
Day 10 Time to relax
With so much on offer it is tempting to be out and about exploring all of the time, but the charming surroundings of the camp are worth enjoying as well. The pool is a lovely spot to soak up the afternoon sunshine, or you can sit back in the lounge with a good book. Staff are always on hand to serve drinks and discuss their lives in this remote but beautiful part of the world. The food is exceptional and served in a variety of inspiring spots around the camp as well as outside when the weather allows.
Day 11 The journey home begins
You will have time for a final morning activity before breakfast and a little time to relax. A short transfer will take you to the Tsigaro airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Maun. There you will catch a flight to Johannesburg arriving in good time to connect with the overnight British Airways flight to London Heathrow, arriving there early tomorrow morning.
