Designed in collaboration with elder Olatotse Sarefo, this sanctuary invites you to step gently into the sounds and stories of the Delta.
Location: Tucked away on a forested peninsula beside the Selinda Spillway, Karangoma Camp offers a quieter, more soulful way to experience the Okavango Delta. This is a deeply wild, private corner of Botswana, reached by light aircraft and helicopter, and shared only with a handful of others. The landscape shifts between open floodplains and riverine woodland, drawing elephants, predators, and birdlife in extraordinary numbers.
Rooms: With just six classic canvas tents, Karangoma feels incredibly peaceful. The design is intentionally simple with polished wooden decks, open-air showers, and light textures inspired by local Hambukushu weaving. You’ll wake to the rustle of leaves and birdsong drifting through gauze windows, and in the evenings, settle into your private seating area as the bush quietly comes alive.
Amenities: At the heart of camp is a relaxed, open-fronted lounge and dining area, plus a small plunge pool perfect for cooling off between activities. Dinners are often enjoyed under the stars, and the firepit becomes a gathering place for storytelling, sometimes with drumming and songs from your guides.
Activities: This is a place for those who want to feel part of the bush, not just observe it. You’ll head out on foot with expert trackers, paddle by mokoro through shallow channels, or enjoy game drives across the floodplains. Guests love the balance of traditional game-viewing with cultural insight, including the chance to visit the nearby Bukakhwe San village of Gudigwa.
Sustainability: We love how rooted Karangoma is in its surroundings. The camp was co-created with San elder Olatotse Sarefo and exists to support the community of Gudigwa. A portion of each stay goes towards conservation, education, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation. It's solar powered, low-impact, and proudly run with care—for both the land and the people who call it home.
