Matobo National ParkZimbabwe· 8 Rooms · ££

Perfect for exploring the spectacular Matobos

Big Cave offers a quirky yet comfortable place to spend a couple of nights.

The rolling granite kopjes of the Matobos National Park mean that lodges here have spectacular locations, with Big Cave Camp being no exception. The bedrooms and main area have been built around the extraordinary topography of the area, giving it a truly unique feel and spectacular views out across the park.

There are 8 A-Frame chalets here, all of which have solid granite walls and thick thatched rooves which mean the rooms stay warm in winter but lovely and cool in the heat of summer. Bedrooms come with various bedding configurations, so it is a great lodge for couples and families alike. The rooms all have their own private terraces which command spectacular views of the Matobos whilst the en-suite bathrooms come with all of the amenities you could require. The main lodge houses the spacious lounge, bar and dining room area, which leads up to the swimming pool deck - the perfect spot to relax in the afternoon and soak up the African sunshine. Menus reflect what is available seasonally, with traditional African dishes blended with modern touches to offer a wonderful culinary experience. The staff here are charming and really help to make you feel at home.

Activities on offer from Big Cave Camp included wildlife drives, rhino tracking, guided walks, visits to bushman rock art sites, mountain biking and treks to the resting place of Cecil Rhodes, known as World's View. In between you can relax in the wonderful surroundings of the lodge and enjoy its unique location looking out over the park.
