Located north of Maputo, Vilanculos is a laid back town with easy access to the Bazaruto Archipelago, which can be reached by a 30 minute boat ride, or 10 minute flight. However Vilanculos has its own string of stunning beaches situated to the north and south of the town. The town and surround area is host to a number of good lodges, restaurants, and markets. Vilanculos was one of Mozambique's first tourist destinations, and it's easy to see why.
An added benefit of Vilanculos is that it's served by an international airport with flights from Johannesburg and Kruger National Park, making it the ideal location for a relaxing beach break before, or after, your South African safari.
