Perched on a ridgetop in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy
A small camp with plenty to boast about. Sat on a ridge, overlooking a natural waterhole where game come to drink, it has some of the best views in the Masai Mara, plus National Geographic named it one of the top 25 eco-lodges in the world.
Saruni Eagle View is a boutique safari camp in Mara Naboisho's private conservancy in the Masai Mara. Perched on top of a ridge, it overlooks a natural salt lick and watering hole on the Koiyaki Plains which attracts plenty of game to drink, and predators hoping for an easy meal. Each of the 9 tented chalets has its own veranda giving you wonderful views and unique viewing opportunities.
The camp has a modern, minimalist interior which is designed to complement to panoramic views that surround it, drawing the outside in. Canvas roofs, wooden floors, and contemporary furniture can be found throughout. Each bedroom has double or twin beds, plus en-suite facilities consisting of a flush toilet, twin washbasins, an inside AND outside safari shower. Half of the tents face to the west, meaning you can enjoy a drink on your veranda whilst watching the sun melt into the horizon and cast a golden shadow over the plains, and the other half face east, so you wake up to a magnificent sunrise each morning - a win either way! The camp has three family annexes where the master room is linked to a smaller double or twin through a short walkway. Due to the camp’s wild and rustic nature, the recommended age for children staying at Saruni Eagle View Camp is 7 years.
The camp's restaurant is a communal area and serves freshly prepared gourmet food using fresh local produce with international influences accompanied by fine wines, and there are also communal viewing decks.
Activities include traditional game drives taken either early morning or in the late afternoon when it is coolest, plus many activities that are only able to be undertaken in a private conservancy including night game drives and walking safaris. Walking safaris give you a unique chance to immerse yourself in the bush and to engage all of your senses. It also provides the opportunity to learn the Maasai's basic survival skills, to appreciate smaller animals that might be overlooked in a vehicle, and to learn to track and identify animals based on their footprints and dung.
Sundowners and bush meals are often a highlight of safari - it is hard to beat a cool drink served against the unforgettable backdrop of an African sunset as you spot game passing by, or to dine out on the open, sitting by a river's edge as hippos grunt below you and a crocodile suns itself on the riverbank.
In 2013, Saruni Eagle View was nominated by National Geographic Travellers Magazine as one of the top 25 eco-lodges in the world, the only nominee in Kenya.
