A twin center holiday that is hard to beat
Iconic wildlife safari followed by a week on the Indian ocean beach means honeymoon bliss
Just four nights after your wedding and within just a few hours of leaving London, you’ll be in the heart of the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most loved wildlife safari location.
From the moment you set eyes on the great plains landscape flying in, you will be in awe at the sheer scale of the infamous wildebeest and zebra migration activity. Game viewing doesn’t get much more dramatic and exciting than this, with big cats and crocodiles attracted by the bountiful food supply! For your first safari, you really are hitting Africa’s sweet spot! Staying at Kilima Camp’s luxury tented private camp with a huge selection of activities for four nights, you’ll gain a true understanding of the Mara ecosystem from your professional guide and tracker.
A short two-hour flight to the Kenyan Coast and a brief ten-minute transfer, and you’ll have your toes in pearly white Indian Ocean sands at Almanara Boutique Hotel. You’ll stay in this little piece of paradise for seven nights, soaking in the sunshine and the beautiful wedding you’ve just had. This honeymoon combines the bush and beach with a focus on wildlife and coastal sunshine.
I created this trip - call me to create yours.
1: Let it begin
Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city.
2: Welcome to the Mara
On arrival into Nairobi’s International airport in the early hours of the morning, you’ll be greeted by a driver who will transfer you to Nairobi’s smaller internal Wilson airport for your flight to the Masai Mara. This scenic flight takes approximately one hour where you’ll look out the plane windows at the unspoilt wilderness of the open plains below, filling you all with awe before you even step foot in the National Park in the Great Rift Valley.
Upon arrival at your Masai Mara airstrip, you’ll be met by a Kilima Camp guide who will transfer you to your home for the next four nights – this is where the safari fun begins. Drive through the open plains to your camp, amongst potentially millions of wildebeest and zebra, giving the Masai Mara its wildlife-related fame worldwide.
Kilima means “mountain or little hill in Swahili” and is found on the western border of the Masai Mara National Reserve, on a private concession, meaning you can explore the landscape on foot, by car or even by horse. The staff can even arrange a special night game drive! Kilima Camp is a luxurious private tented camp, meaning your tent has wooden floors, warm tones to the fabrics and furniture, a private veranda with views over the plains and Mara River.
3-5: Wildebeest Migration and Big Cats
You’ll be right in the thick of it with the infamous wildebeest river crossings occurring around October when you’re staying in the Mara. As the wildebeest and zebra migrate south towards the lush green pastures in Tanzania, they are forced into a dramatic journey, stalked by lions and ambushed by crocodiles.
At night, the bush comes alive with nocturnal animals, filling the air with enchanting sounds – your professional guides and trackers will be on hand to explain the intricacies of the ecosystem and bring nature to life. You’ll be amazed what the friendly chefs can create in this environment! Breakfast is served with a view of hilarious noisy hippos lazing in the Mara River.
**Hot air balloon safari**
This is an ideal opportunity to experience a once in a lifetime flight, in a balloon, over the Mara plains. After an early wakeup call – to the sounds of immense birdsong – you’ll set off to the balloon launch site. After hopping into your basket, feel the heat of the flames that bring you smoothly into the sky – feel a soft cool breeze and look down at the wildlife moving or even bird flying beneath you. You’ll move high and low in the sky, nearly touching the treetops at times! The landing of your balloon is followed by photos and a champagne bush breakfast – the atmosphere is filled with excitement and the food is delicious!
6: Sand in your toes
After a leisurely wake-up and your last hippo watching breakfast in the Masai Mara, you will be transferred back to the Mara airstrip for your afternoon flight to Diani Beach south of Mombasa on the Kenyan Coast. After a two-hour flight you’ll be met by your Almanara Boutique Hotel driver for a quick ten-minute drive to the Diani Beach resort.
Pearl white sands and lush green forests provide a backdrop of serenity that defines paradise. You will stay for seven nights in an Ocean view room with a large veranda brought to life by authentic, yet modern, décor that maintains a genuine African feel. Before the day is up, you’ll be walking along the white sandy beach, or relaxing in the infinity pool or jacuzzi.
7-12: Sun, Swim & Snorkel
This is your chance to let it all sink in, rest on the beach, by the pool and drink in the sunshine (and cocktails!). If you have the energy, try kite surfing, windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, golf, tennis, or horse riding.
A trip to see the protected Colobus Monkey’s is a must, whilst a tour of an ancient “Kaya” forest will help you learn the origins of the coastal tribes. The Wasini Island trip aboard Pili Pippa’s famous Dhow is a fantastic way to visit the Kisite National Marine Park where you can snorkel and swim with the dolphins, before heading to the island for a seafood lunch.
13: R&R Complete
Depending on your flight time, after breakfast or lunch, enjoy a return ten-minute drive to Ukunda airport for your flight back to London via Nairobi.
10: The Newlyweds are Back
Arriving to London feeling revived, inspired and happy with the memories, photos and sun-kissed skin from your perfect honeymoon.
