The Rufiji River

The Rufiji River is located in South Tanzania and at 370 miles long it provides the perfect habitat for bush animals throughout the Selous Game Reserve.

During my recent trip I was fortunate enough to take a river boat safari along the Rufiji and here at some of the highlights….

Monkey Drinking Rufiji — Just stopping for a drink

Hippo Rufiji — The Selous Game reserve is home to almost 18,000 hippo!

Birdlife Rufiji — The banks of the river are a haven for many birds, including this Goliath Heron

Rufiji Croc — I don’t recommend going for a swim!!

While all the bigger animals and birds are very exciting, don’t forget the little guys...

Dragonfly Rufiji — The Red-veined Darter

I stayed at the Mivumo River Lodge, where each room has a beautiful balcony with river views. There’s nothing like taking a shower and watching a hippo swimming by!!
