The itinerary…
Day 1: International departure
Head for the international airport for your flight to Borneo. A wild adventure awaits!
Day 2: Sandakan – Sepilok
Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, meet and greet with your local representative and transfer to the Sepilok Nature Resort for check-in, where you will stay overnight. Spend the afternoon acclimating to Borneo's unique climate. Conclude your day with dinner at the resort.
Day 3: Sepilok – Sukau
Embark on a captivating day with an early morning pick-up from the hotel, where you will then head to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Learn about the plight of the orangutans, witness a feeding in the rainforest, and explore the orangutan nursery. After that, it's off to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre before lunch. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the Sandakan jetty for a 2 ½ hour boat ride along Kinabatangan River to your accommodation for the next two nights, at Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy a wildlife river cruise, a delightful dinner overlooking the riverbank, and a fascinating slide presentation by a naturalist guide.
Day 4: Sukau
Start your day with the natural sounds of gibbons and hornbills at 6am. Take an early morning river trip to Ox-bow Lake, immersing yourself in the Sabah River's dawn ambiance and observing wildlife. After a delightful breakfast, stroll along the Hornbill Boardwalk for an educational tour guided by the lodge's in-house naturalist. Learn more about orangutans with an afternoon talk and then in the afternoon, the adventure continues with another mesmerizing river cruise, offering glimpses of wildlife.
Day 5: Head to Tabin Wildlife Reserve
After breakfast, the morning is at your leisure until it's time for your transfer to Lahad Datu Airport where you will meet your driver for your transfer to Tabin . Depart at midday for a 1.5-hour scenic drive to Tabin Wildlife Resort, with a local lunch en route. You will stay at the Tabin Wildlife Resort for two nights. Explore the rich rainforest surroundings and learn about indigenous jungle herbs. In the afternoon, visit the active Lipad mud volcano, trek through the rainforest, and climb the observation tower. After dinner, enjoy a slide presentation on Tabin’s natural wonders, followed by an adventurous night safari to observe nocturnal wildlife and birds. Take a moment to gaze at the clear night sky, identify constellations, and make a wish or two.
Day 6: Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Embark on a nature-filled day at Tabin, starting with an early bird walk to explore the rich avian life. After breakfast, a wildlife drive precedes a trek to the biodiverse Lipad Waterfall, offering a refreshing dip and shower. The afternoon invites relaxation with a Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak. As evening falls, embark on a dusk drive to spot nocturnal wildlife and birds. Post-dinner, a night walk near the resort unveils sleeping birds, frogs, and other nocturnal wonders. Each activity, from bird-watching to waterfall exploration and wildlife encounters, promises a captivating and diverse experience in the heart of Tabin's rainforest.
Day 7: Off to Danum Valley
Embark on a dynamic day as you return to Lahad Datu, register, and commence a 2.5-hour 4WD journey to Danum Valley’s Borneo Rainforest Lodge where you will stay two nights. Covering 43,800 hectares, you will venture through Sabah’s largest lowland dipterocarp rainforest. Check-in and savour lunch at the lodge. Watch a fascinating presentation about the Valley then delve into the rainforest with an afternoon trek, featuring nature trails and a 300m canopy walkway. Conclude the day with a delightful dinner at the lodge and a thrilling night drive in pursuit of nocturnal wildlife. This immersive experience promises a seamless blend of adventure, education, and natural marvels in Danum Valley.
Day 8: Danum Valley jungle trek
Indulge in breakfast at the lodge, setting the stage for a morning jungle trek. Explore the Kadazandusun burial site, known as "Coffin Cliff," and proceed to the viewpoint for a panoramic vista. Return to the lodge for a relaxed lunch, then venture out for an afternoon jungle trek to see all the different wildlife at this time of day. Conclude the day with a delightful dinner at the lodge and an intriguing night walk, aiming to spot elusive nocturnal creatures.
Day 9: Fly to Kota Kinabalu
Start your day with a delightful breakfast at the lodge, followed by some free time to enjoy at your own pace. Indulge in a leisurely lunch at the lodge before checking out after lunch for your 2.5-hour transfer to Lahad Datu Airport. From there you will have a short one hour flight to Kota Kinabalu
Upon reaching Kota Kinabalu International Airport, you'll be warmly greeted by your representative. They'll assist you in transferring to the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort, where you will stay for two nights. After check-in, you can unwind for the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 10: Kota Kinabalu
Embark on an exhilarating day starting with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a thrilling Coral Flyer Zipline adventure from Gaya to Sapi Island. After a short ferry ride to Sapi, don a harness, and zip through the lush forest. Spend the day at leisure on Sapi, indulging in activities like swimming and snorkelling. Lunch is included. In the late afternoon, return to the mainland by boat, then refresh at the hotel. In the evening, meet your driver-guide for an enchanting evening in Kota Kinabalu, exploring the vibrant night market, savoring a sunset drink by the waterfront, and enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 11: Depart Borneo
Wake up and enjoy your final breakfast in Borneo. Spend the day in Kota Kinabalu at your leisure until it's time to be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
Day 12: Arrive home
As your arrive back in your home country, reflect on your amazing journey through the wilds of Borneo, hopefully with some incredible photos to show off to family and friends!
