Sepilok Nature Lodge

The perfect blend of comfort, immersion, and access to Borneo's wildlife
· 23 Rooms · ££
Wooden chalets, orchid-filled pathways, and peaceful ambience

A lush rainforest retreat just moments from the world-renowned Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.

Location
Tucked into the lush green of the Kabili–Sepilok Forest Reserve, just a short stroll from the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sepilok Nature Lodge is an ideal base for wildlife lovers.

Rooms
You’ll be staying in one of 23 wooden chalets, scattered throughout tropical gardens and beside a tranquil lagoon. Each is simply styled with natural materials, comfortable beds, air-conditioning, and private verandas where you can listen to birdsong or, if you're lucky, spot a gibbon swinging through the canopy. Guests love how peaceful it feels.

Amenities
The central lodge is a relaxed, open-air space with a restaurant overlooking the lake. Meals are a mix of Asian and Western favourites, with warm service and a backdrop of chirping cicadas and rustling palms. You can arrange early breakfasts if you're heading out for orangutan sightings, and there’s a small bar for post-adventure sundowners.

Activities
From orangutan feeding sessions to forest walks and night safaris, there's so much to explore nearby. We love how easy it is to visit several key conservation centres on foot, and you can even venture further afield to the Kinabatangan River for a boat safari if time allows.

Sustainability
Built sensitively from local timber and surrounded by over 150 species of native plants, the lodge blends beautifully into its natural setting. By staying here, you're directly supporting the area's eco-tourism. At the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, orphaned orangutans are expertly cared for, rehabilitated, and gradually reintroduced into 43 km² of protected forest in the Kabili‑Sepilok Reserve. Next door, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre offers a safe haven for orphaned or trafficked sun bears rescued into semi‑wild enclosures, contributing to wildlife welfare, research and public awareness.

Far and Wild went above and beyond to make sure my trip to Zambia was special. I would definitely recommend them and their services to anyone wanting to travel to Africa.

Wow! These guys are amazing. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Friendly AND efficient! Sorted out our trip (last minute and lots of different family member needs, sorry!) in record time and everything worked like clockwork. Trip of a lifetime to the Masai Mara. Will be back (and use F&W again!)!
