Niyama

A resort that truly has it all
The MaldivesIndian Ocean· 134 Rooms · £££

Two private islands that balance relaxation and adventure beautifully

One island is designed for tranquillity and the other for more lively pursuits

Location
Set in the Dhaalu Atoll, around a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé, the main airport into The Maldives, Niyama spreads across two lush islands linked by a wooden bridge. One is called ‘Chill’ and the other ‘Play’, reflecting the perfect balance between calm retreat and energetic exploration.

Rooms
There are 134 villas and pavilions here, each with a contemporary Maldivian design. Think sleek lines, open spaces, and large windows that let the sea or lagoon views pour in. Many come with private pools and direct access to the beach or water, so you can step straight from bed into paradise. Families will love the larger pavilions, while couples often prefer the secluded overwater villas with sunset-facing decks.

Amenities
Niyama is known for its creativity. There’s an underwater restaurant, Subsix, where you dine surrounded by reef life, and a treetop restaurant reached by a rope bridge. The Drift Spa offers overwater treatment pods and wellness rituals, while multiple pools, bars, and beach clubs keep the atmosphere lively. Families are particularly well looked after with the Explorers kids’ club, one of the best in the Maldives.

Activities
Whether you want to unwind or dive into adventure, Niyama delivers. Snorkelling and diving here are superb, with healthy reefs and good chances of spotting dolphins. Surfers will love the resort’s own wave, while water sports range from paddleboarding to jet-skiing. Sunset cruises, private picnics on sandbanks, and stargazing evenings add romance, while cooking classes and cultural experiences bring a local flavour.

Sustainability
Niyama is committed to protecting the beauty that makes the Maldives so special. The resort supports coral regeneration projects, reduces single-use plastics, and works with the local community to preserve the atoll’s fragile environment.
