A perfect combination of beautiful beaches and turquoise waters
Belize’s Caribbean coast offers stunning beaches, turquoise waters, and world-class snorkelling and diving.
The spectacular Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to the famous Blue Hole, one of the world’s top dive locations.
This unspoiled coastline is dotted with secluded, upscale properties, perfect for those seeking both luxury and adventure. Just off the coast lies Ambergris Caye, one of Belize's most popular destinations. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, Ambergris Caye manages to maintain its laid-back island charm, with sandy streets and colourful beachfront bars offering a true taste of Caribbean life.
The island is lined with beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood, providing an authentic coastal dining experience. For a more private escape, Matachica Resort, located just north of San Pedro, offers luxurious accommodations on a peaceful stretch of beach. This boutique resort blends effortlessly into its tropical surroundings, creating the perfect retreat for those seeking tranquillity and privacy.
Further south, the Placencia Peninsula offers a different but equally idyllic beach experience. With its powdery sands and clear waters, Placencia is home to luxury resorts like Naia and Itz’ana, where guests can enjoy beachfront bliss with a touch of sophistication.
Belize’s coast is a paradise for both relaxation and exploration, whether as a standalone trip or as a relaxing end to adventures in the Belizean jungle or the highlands of Guatemala.

Belize Beach Holidays FAQs
Planning a Belize beach holiday? Our experts share advice on everything from what to pack, when to go, to tips for couples, covering the questions we get asked the most.
Are the beaches in Belize good?
Belize isn’t a classic “endless white sand” Caribbean destination, and that often surprises people. What it offers instead is a more natural, varied coastline, calm waters protected by the reef, and access to beautiful offshore cayes. Some areas, particularly Placencia Peninsula, have long, swimmable beaches, while others are better for views and water access rather than traditional beach lounging.
Should I stay in Placencia or Ambergris Caye?
This is by far the most common question. In simple terms, Ambergris Caye is livelier, with easy access to the reef, plenty of restaurants, and a social atmosphere. Placencia Peninsula is quieter, more spacious, and offers better natural beaches with a relaxed, village feel.
Can you swim easily from the beach?
It depends where you are. In some areas, especially around Ambergris Caye, swimming is often done from piers due to seagrass and shallow water. Resorts do clear the sea grass regularly. In places like Placencia, the beaches are more traditionally swimmable, with softer sand and easier access into the sea.
Is Belize a good destination if I want both beach and activities?
Very much so, and this is one of its real strengths. You can snorkel or dive along the Belize Barrier Reef, then head inland for rainforest, wildlife, or Maya ruins. The geography makes it easy to combine beach time with something more active, often within the same day.
How relaxed or lively is a Belize beach holiday?
It varies depending on where you stay. Ambergris Caye has a more social, energetic feel with beach bars and nightlife, while Placencia is slower-paced and more about quiet days and relaxed evenings.
