Kakadu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of vast wetlands, sandstone escarpments and Aboriginal rock art. Home to over two hundred and eighty bird species and countless other wildlife, it’s also prime crocodile country. River and billabong cruises, such as those on Yellow Water, are the perfect way to navigate on a wildlife holiday here, as they reveal Kakadu’s beauty from a different perspective.

Kakadu is around a three-hour drive from Darwin along sealed roads, making it ideal for a self-drive adventure. Tours are also available for those preferring guided exploration.

Best time to visit Darwin and Kakadu

The dry season, May to October, offers warm, sunny days, lower humidity and easier access to key sites. Wet season travel brings lush landscapes and dramatic storms, but some areas may be inaccessible.
