One of the wildest places in Zambia, with only two camps in the whole park - a real wilderness experience
Location
A place for those who want to truly unplug, Mwaleshi Camp is wonderfully remote, tucked away in a quiet corner of North Luangwa National Park. It sits beside the Mwaleshi River, far from roads and other camps, in one of the wildest parts of Zambia.
Rooms
The camp has just four reed-and-thatch chalets, rebuilt each season using natural materials. Simple and open-fronted, they look out over the river and let the sounds of the bush drift in. Each has a comfortable bed, a flush loo, and a bucket shower open to the stars.
Amenities
At the heart of camp is a shaded thatched lounge where meals are shared and stories swapped. There’s no Wi-Fi, no generator hum, just birdsong and the occasional grunt of a hippo. Guests love the gentle rhythm of days here - coffee by the fire at dawn, brunch in the sun, and stargazing after dinner.
Activities
This is walking safari country, and it’s what Mwaleshi is all about. You’ll explore on foot with expert guides and armed scouts, tracking wildlife through open plains and riverine forest. It’s thrilling and beautifully intimate. You might also visit Mwaleshi Falls, or sleep out under the stars if you're feeling adventurous.
Sustainability
Mwaleshi is operated by Remote Africa Safaris and plays an active role in conservation and community support. The Tafika Fund helps local schools and livelihoods, while the camp itself is entirely solar-powered and designed to have minimal impact. Additionally, Remote Africa Safaris partners with conservation NGOs including Conservation South Luangwa, the Zambian Carnivore Programme, and the North Luangwa Conservation Programme, all contributing to anti-poaching patrols, human‑wildlife conflict resolution, and community education.
