A great spot from which to see desert adapted elephant and rhino
With superb views, varied activities and cosy rooms, this is the ideal base for exploring beautiful Damaraland
Accessed via a steep off road track from the main route through Damaraland, Grootberg Lodge is perched on the top of the escarpment which looks down to the breathtaking Klipriver Valley far below.
The lodge has 16 bedrooms, housed in their own individual chalets, strung out either side of the spacious main area of the lodge. The chalets are cosy but well-equipped, with en-suite bathrooms and private verandas at the front where guests can sit and take in the amazing views that unfold in front of them. The communal part of the lodge is a large open-plan dining room, bar and lounge area, with a set od stairs leading down to the patio and swimming pool which is arguably the most spectacularly located in all of Africa. The staff are wonderfully charming and will go out of their way to ensure that a stay at Grootberg Lodge is a truly memorable one.
In-house guides are able to take guests out to track desert elephant and rhino, the most prominent wildlife in Damaraland. They also offer morning walks along the Etendeka plateau on which the lodge sits, as well as sundowner drinks drives. Trips to see the local Damara people, one of the indigenous tribes of Namibia.
