Okonjima Plains Camp

Affordable accommodation at Okomjima

Affordable, high quality accommodation at Okonjima

Conveniently located for visitors to AfriCat

14 ‘standard’ and 10 ‘view’ rooms, all of which are light, airy, comfortable and very spacious, provide accommodation at this property, of which the main building looks rather like a modern barn of sorts encompassing a large dining and more than one sitting areas. Owned by the cattle-farming Hanssen family, it provides convenient and comfortable accommodation for people staying a night or two at Okonjima with a view to visiting the 220km2 reserve and the AfriCat Foundation. For the hot summer months there are fans, and for winter nights, woodburners. The property has a swimming pool.

The ‘view’ rooms are slightly larger and more widely spaced than the ‘standard’ rooms, but all have views of the plain to the front of the property. All have large windows, are brightly decorated and comfortably furnished. For those on a self-drive holiday, there’s shaded parking. The modern bathrooms have twin basins and amenities in the rooms include small refrigerator.

Activities at Plains Camp and its sister properties (all of which are smaller and therefore more intimate/exclusive) are centred around AfriCat where people can track big cats and other carnivores. Okonjima Nature Reserve’s trails in the fenced-off area offer chance to see some interesting wildlife. Game drives (day and night) are offered.
