Anvil Bay is located within the Maputo Special Reserve in Southern Mozambique. Transfer by helicopter is one of the favourite ways to get to the hotel, taking just 30 minutes from Maputo International Airport. Anvil Bay has been designed to preserve the wilderness that surrounds the camp, while promising a home-from-home atmosphere. The pristine Indian Ocean and deserted beach are the ideal setting for a paradise getaway.
The lodges have been built with locally crafted canvas and thatch, with some located closer to the restaurant and bar, and others at the more secluded north and south ends. There are numerous ways to enjoy the stunning surroundings: walks on the beach and dune forest trails, beach biking, sea kayaking, snorkelling, whale watching trips, turtle nesting walks and private picnics.
The winter months (May to October) are the coolest, though sea temperatures rarely drop below 22 degrees. During these months, the hump back whales migrate up and down the coast creating wonderful opportunities to see these special creatures. The summer months provide ideal beach weather with the sea temperatures rising to 27 degrees. From November to January turtles come ashore to lay their eggs which then hatch from January onward. Turtle walks at sunrise and sunset allow you to witness this amazing phenomenon.
