Estancia Cristina is a unique wilderness lodge in Los Glaciares National Park, offering a true Patagonian experience with stunning views of the Patagonian steppe.
Location
Reached only by boat across the iceberg-dotted waters of Lago Argentino, Estancia Cristina feels like a hidden world at the edge of the earth. Tucked within a remote corner of Los Glaciares National Park, it sits surrounded by snow-dusted mountains, open steppe, and the vast silence of Patagonia. We love how the journey itself becomes part of the experience. It's a slow immersion into one of Argentina’s most unspoilt landscapes.
Rooms
There are just 20 rooms, set across five cosy 'casas' dotted around the grounds, each named for the surrounding terrain: Mountain, Steppe, Forest, River, and Family. Inside, you’ll find simple but inviting spaces, with warm wooden floors, thick duvets, and large windows framing glacier and mountain views. It’s quiet, comfortable, and full of understated charm - the kind of place where guests sleep deeply and wake to the sound of wind in the trees.
Amenities
The heart of the estancia is its octagonal lodge, a relaxed space where you can curl up with a glass of wine beside the fire or swap stories in the small bar. There’s no pool here, but plenty of tranquil corners to rest and soak up the scenery.
Meals are hearty and home-cooked, often featuring Patagonian lamb, fresh vegetables, and trout from nearby waters, served either in the dining room or packed for your day’s adventure.
Activities
Each day brings something new: guided hikes through fossil canyons, scenic 4×4 journeys, horseback rides, or fly-fishing when in season. What we love is the flexibility: explore with a guide or wander at your own pace. The experiences are immersive, deeply rooted in the land, and always beautifully unhurried.
Sustainability
Estancia Cristina takes its role as a custodian of Los Glaciares National Park seriously. The lodge operates with a strong low-impact ethos, using solar‑powered energy systems and carefully managed waste disposal, including reusable containers, composting, and recycling, to reduce its ecological footprint. Activities are designed to be nature-friendly too: guided hikes, horseback riding, and 4×4 tours all avoid sensitive areas, helping preserve native flora and fauna. The team also work closely with park authorities to monitor wildlife and maintain trails and refuges with minimal disturbance to the environment.
