Wildlife, both mythological and real
Explore ancient temples with unusual carvings, spot wildlife on safari and take a boat trip on the River Ken
If you took the pages of the Kama Sutra and carved them in stone - erotic sculptures of gods and goddesses, warriors and musicians, real and mythological animals - and used the statues to adorn dozens of temples, you would have the wonder that is Khajuraho.
This 1000-year old temple complex is really one of the most remarkabe on earth and as such is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Temples are dotted around a peaceful area, and you can walk or cycle around and take them in at a slow pace.
A short drive down the road is Panna National Park. Ten years ago all the tigers had disappeared from Panna due to poaching, but a re-introduction programme seems to be working and you might just spot a tiger here. If not there is plenty more wildlife to see in the park - make sure you go for a morning boat ride on the river Ken.
