When travelling through the state of Himachal Pradesh in the foothills of the Himalayas, it’s always a great idea to venture out to the medieval Indian village of Pragpur for a couple of nights’ stay in the charming historic Judge’s Court. Originally a local judge’s country manor, this elegantly preserved property is still managed by its original family owners, and is a step back to Indian country life 300 years ago. The whole village is protected as a heritage zone.
Judge’s Court is set in twelve acres of orchards of mango, plum and lychee. Most food is grown on the property, with milk from its own dairy, and water piped exclusively from a nearby mountain spring.
While staying here be sure to visit the local market with its traditional silversmiths, weavers and tailors – here you can get your jewellery and clothes tailored to your requirements, ready for when you leave. Nearby there are also some good spots for walking, cycling, and even for fishing the revered Mahaseer.
