We have created this trip to hit the best of Japan and explore the area that makes it so popular, whilst also ncorparting unique visists to towns that are much lesser visted. We really think yuou will leave this trip with a true authentic experience of Japan, balancing the big city bussle with the small town stillness.

Nia, our Japan specialist, says:

"This trip follows some of Japan’s Golden Route, with a bit of a twist. The contrast between the bustling cities of Tokyo and Nagoya and the smaller town visits to Japan’s charming pottery district, Tokoname, creates an interesting combination that will be thoroughly enjoyed!"

Your journey starts in Tokyo - where all great trips to Japan do. You’ll explore historic Asakusa, visit Tokyo’s oldest temple, Sensoji, and stroll along Nakamise shopping street. Then enjoy a scenic cruise down the Sumidagawa River to experience Tokyo’s incredible views.

Next, you’ll dive deeper into traditional Japanese culture with a visit to the Bonsai Museum and a hands-on bonsai lesson near Tokyo. Then it’s off to Shizuoka for breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and visits to scenic spots like the Nihondaira Plateau and the famous Miho no Matsubara pine grove. You’ll enjoy the region’s tea culture and local flavours while soaking in stunning landscapes.

The journey continues to Nagoya and the charming pottery town of Tokoname, where you can explore historic kilns and galleries, and take part in a pottery workshop. Finally, the trip concludes in Kyoto, Japan’s cultural heart, with visits to iconic sites such as Fushimi Inari Shrine, Sanjusangendo Temple, and Kinkakuji Temple. You’ll also explore the tranquil Arashiyama district, famous for its bamboo groves, Zen temples, and peaceful gardens.
