A Journey into Tanzania’s Remote and Remarkable Landscapes

A luxury, off-the-beaten-track safari through Ruaha and Nyerere National Parks, followed relaxation on the white-sand beaches of the Swahili Coast.

This is the kind of trip you’ll talk about for years. It combines remote, crowd-free safari with castaway-style beach luxury – and is ideal for couples, families, or friends looking for something just a little different. You’ll explore two of Tanzania’s wildest and least-visited parks, then wind down on the Swahili Coast where the bush meets the sea.

Your journey begins deep in Ruaha National Park – one of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets. It’s vast, raw, and wonderfully wild. With hardly another vehicle in sight, you’ll enjoy a truly exclusive safari, tracking big cats, watching huge elephant herds, and spotting rare wild dogs. Between game drives, relax by the pool, enjoy sundowners around the fire, and fall asleep to the sounds of the bush.

Each evening, you’ll sit down with the camp team to plan the next day’s adventures – maybe a walking safari at dawn, birdwatching through the baobabs, or a picnic under a shady acacia. With over 500 bird species recorded and that feeling of having the park all to yourself, Ruaha is perfect for wildlife lovers who value space, silence, and spectacular sightings.

Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) is one of Africa’s largest protected areas. It’s wild in a completely different way – here, you swap dry savannah for lush waterways and riverine forests. Spend your days on boat safaris, game drives, and guided walks. With around 50,000 elephants and 5,000 leopards, the wildlife is phenomenal – but it’s the stillness and sense of space that truly stay with you. Evenings end around the campfire, with delicious dinners and the sound of hippos grunting in the distance.

Then it’s time to unwind. A short flight and scenic drive bring you to Kasa Bay, a tucked-away eco-luxury beach lodge on a pristine stretch of the Swahili Coast. This is where you truly switch off – stroll along the empty shoreline, take a dip in the Indian Ocean, or book a massage. If you’re still feeling adventurous, join a boat safari on the Wami River or head out on a guided bush walk.

Our Tanzania specialist, Ottilie, says:

"This itinerary is one of my absolute favourites because it captures the true essence of Tanzania - wild, remote, and incredibly beautiful. Ruaha and Nyerere are dream destinations for safari purists, offering intimate wildlife experiences without the crowds. Then, to top it all of, Saadani Kasa Bay is such a hidden paradise. It is rare to find a place where you can watch elephants in the morning and dip your toes in the ocean by afternoon. It's the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, and ideal for travellers who want something a little different."
