Hilltop Camp

The Multi award - winning Hilltop Camp at Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park is the oldest in the KwaZulu Natal region. It was extensively rebuilt and enlarged in the early nineties. Hilltop Camp has excellent tourist facilities with superb game viewing and bird watching in a beautiful setting. Known as Hluluwe's crown upon a forested hill. As the home of Operation Rhino in the 1950s and 60s, the Park became world renowned for its white rhino conservation. Set in the heart of Zululand, the oldest game reserve in Africa where Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka hunted and put in place the first conservation laws, where today the "big five" of African legend stalk the verdant savannah. Established in 1895, game viewing is the prime attraction. Viewing hides overlook waterholes enabling visitors to see animals at close range.

Accommodation is varied, offering guests flexibility to suit. There are 20 two-bedded rondavels with communal bathrooms and kitchens; seven two-bedded and 22 four-bedded self-catering chalets; and 20 two-bedded non-self-catering chalets. Other amenities include a swimming pool, a fully licensed restaurant, a Curio shop, fuel pump station, Jungle gym and kiddies corner facility.

Activities focus ongame-viewing drives, but there are also self-guided auto trails which provide information on both the management and natural history of the reserve. The Park covers some 96000-hectares and contains an immense diversity of fauna and flora. Hluhluwe is characterised by hilly topography, and this Northern section of the park is noted for its wide variety of both bird and animal life. Guided walks are also available, particularly rewarding in the early morning and late afternoon.
