Montusi Mountain Lodge

Montusi Mountain Lodge is located in the Drakensberg Mountains on a 1000-hectare estate. It has stunning views of the famous Amphitheatre Escarpment. Situated in the Kwazulu-Natal Drakensberg, halfway between Johannesburg and Durban, Montusi Mountain Lodge is the only upmarket destination in the area with a full and uninterrupted view of the Drakensberg's most famous part, the Amphitheatre escarpment.

The accommodation consists of 16 freestanding suites. All are decorated in earthy tones and offer incredible views of Drakensberg Amphitheatre. There are ten Garden suites, which have a spacious bedroom with a lounge and en-suite bathroom. The bathroom has a bath and walk-in shower, and the honeymoon suite has a corner bath. The four Family suites accommodate four adults or two adults travelling with two children. The rooms are separated by a lounge area, which has a fireplace and leads onto a private patio. The two Mountain suites are the newest addition, being larger and the most modern of the suites at Montusi Mountain Lodge. The thatched main area houses the lounge, bar and restaurant, leading onto a terrace that overlooks a natural pool. There is also a massage treatment room, tennis court and equipment and a large swimming pool.

At Montusi Mountain Lodge there is no pressure - no wake-up calls (in fact no telephone in the room), hot water all day long. It is a place to simply wind down and relax. Just enjoy the little bit of paradise and recharge the batteries. However, for the more active guests wanting to explore the mountainous area, from the lodge there are many different hiking trails, which are perfectly safe to explore on your own. Some of the trails lead to a Bushman Cave with paintings, waterfalls and rock pools. Royal Natal National Park is only 15 km away. The estate contains two dams, stocked with trout that can be fished on a catch-and-release basis. The Northern Horse stables are within easy walking distance from the lodge and all levels of rider are catered for.
