Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve

An multi award winning wilderness retreat in the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains

Cederberg Mountains, home to cave murals dating back over 10,000 years

A luxury wildlife retreat preserving a lost version of South Africa

Nestled in the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains, Bushmans Kloof is an intimate lodge surrounded by open vistas overlooking a predator-free wildlife sanctuary. Since its opening, the reserve has shown incredible dedication to preserving the cultural legacy of the indigenous San people. They have actively conserved and been stewards for 130 cave murals, all of which tell the story of the original inhabitants and the flourishing lost version of Cederberg, where big game roamed free. The owners of Bushman’s Kloof are proud custodians of these sites and connect their guests with the ancient wonder of the region, their enthusiasm and knowledge create such an immersive atmosphere that you won’t want to leave. If that wasn’t enough it is also the site of the internationally renowned Rooibos tea, signature to Bushmans gastronomic and spa experiences making the indigenous grasslands synonymous with a stay at this luxury retreat.

The reserve can accommodate 34 guests in a range of luxurious modern rooms, suites and even a private villa. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and private terraces with stunning views onto the sandstone formations of Cederberg. Guests can enjoy four swimming pools set amid the lush lawns and organic gardens, blooming with indigenous species of flora. At Bushmans, guests experience nights that are softly illuminated in the open-air pavilion built into the natural sandstone amphitheatre, enjoying authentic, organic Cape cuisine and incredible grassland vistas.

Game drives and walks are conducted at Bushmans Kloof – a recognised wildlife haven protecting one of the largest herds of Cape Mountain Zebra in the world, helping to save them from extinction. Unforgettable night time drives under a canopy of stars are taken in open safari vehicles offering close encounters with nocturnal wildlife. The jewel in the crown is the rock art excursions, where guests gain an insight into the deep and rich spiritual culture of the bushmen, visiting the most important site Bleeding Nose Shelter among others.
