From the road as you approach Ellerman House appears relatively unassuming and similar to many of the other houses in the upmarket suburb of Bantry Bay. From the moment you step inside any pretensions at being ordinary melt away as you are greeted with some of the most breathtaking views in the city, enjoyed from the surroundings of arguably its finest hotel.

The hotel has 13 beautifully designed bedrooms, all with their own individual style and feel. One theme that does run through them is the space, beautiful décor and all of the amenities one could wish for, including fully equipped bathrooms. All of the bedrooms have large private terraces with spectacular ocean views, perfect for morning coffee or relaxing in the afternoon with a good book. There is a large lounge area with plenty of deep, comfortable sofas and a large dining room where guests can enjoy meals throughout the day. The food here is outstanding, good enough to see Ellerman as a part of Relais and Chateaux, with chefs relying on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients including plenty of amazing seafood. The wine collection is a reason to stay at Ellerman in itself, with its vast collection housed in their impressive cellar, the centrepiece of which is a corkscrew wine rack where some of South Africa’s finest vintages take pride of place. Outside the lawns look down to the Atlantic Ocean and have plenty of sun loungers where guests can relax and enjoy drinks and snacks bought by the amazing staff. The sparkling swimming pool offers a welcome escape from the heat of Cape Town afternoons and the views from the pool are amongst the best in the city.
