With stunning views and lovely rooms, this lodge really is a treat for the senses
A gorgeous base from which to explore this beautiful but much under visited corner of Namibia
As you drive through the remote deserts of the Kaokoveld the gorgeous Okahirongo Elephant Lodge rises like a mirage and offers an oasis of tranquillity for a night or two as you drive north towards the Kunene River. With stunning views over the Hoarusib River Valley and a unique style to it, this is one of Namibia’s most surprising and delightful lodges.
The lodge is built around a sparkling swimming pool which is sited to take advantage of the magnificent views of the desert plains and is a hugely welcoming spot to spend an afternoon soaking up the sunshine. Bedrooms are housed in freestanding chalets which are well-equipped and have small terraces at the front where you can relax in the afternoons. There is also a larger two-bedroom Presidential Suite with its own lounge area, ideal for families or two couples travelling together. The main area of the lodge plays host to a cozy lounge area, complete with fireplace for the cold desert nights, a bar where guests share tales of their day exploring the region and an open-sided dining area which commands simply amazing views. The food is excellent, defying the remote location of the lodge and is accompanied by an excellent wine list.
The lodge offers a variety of activities including game drives and dedicated tracking trips to see desert rhino or elephant. They also offer guided walks, visits to a nearby Himba Village and sundowner drinks drives to beautiful vantage points in the area.
