Beaches, palm trees and historical buildings
The town holds a commanding position within Pemba Bay, one of the world's largest natural harbours
Pemba is the capital of Cabo Delagado Province, on the coast of Mozambique. It holds a commanding position within Pemba Bay, one of the worlds largest natural harbours, by extending out into the bay on a peninsular. The town is a useful stop for those wishing to explore the Quirimbas National Park to the north, but should be considered more than just a one night destination.
To the east of Pemba centre there is Wimbi Beach, a long idyllic stretch of white sand bordered by palm trees and the warm Indian Ocean. Wimbi beach is the main attraction for visitors looking to unwind before, or after, a trip to one of the national parks.
Pemba is known for its historical buildings, formed of Portuguese colonial architecture, and is a great destination for water sports and diving enthusiasts as coral reefs are not far from the shore edge.
