A Jain temple town with a fascinating past
A peaceful temple town that makes a great stopover on the journey between Mysore and Kerala.
Sultan Battery takes its name from the local Jain temple which was used by Emperor Tipu Sultan as a battery to store ammunition in the 18th Century. Today this peaceful town makes an excellent stopover on the journey from Mysore to Kerala. This is a place to kick back, enjoy the peace and quiet and have a few leisurely walks, great for sighting birds and other wildlife. A short drive can take you to the Neolithic caves at Eddakal, Muthanga Game Sanctuary, and numerous waterfalls and lakes.
A stay at the nearby Tranquil Resort is an experience to remember, where you’ll be a guest of the family and get to enjoy daily life on this coffee and spice plantation.
