A luxury ger resort on the open steppe near Hustai National Park, with two restaurant venues, a terrace cafe and horseback tours across Mongolia's grasslands.
Location. HS Khaan Resort sits on open steppe in Argalant soum, part of Töv Province, close to Hustai National Park. It's about 45 kilometres northwest of Ulaanbaatar, an hour by car or 85 minutes from the airport. Khui Doloon Khudag, home to Mongolia's Naadam Festival, is nearby.
Rooms. The resort has 26 gers in total, 24 standard ensuite suites and 2 deluxe suites. Each is 120 square metres with its own bathroom, a bar counter and a safe, and sleeps up to four guests using a sofa bed for the third or fourth.
Amenities. Tal Kheer, the resort's French restaurant, occupies two connected gers furnished with oriental antiques and seats 32 for dinner. The Open Terrace Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea over steppe views, and a separate lounge pours Mongolian beer and cocktails into the evening.
Activities. Guided horseback rides across the open prairie run from thirty minutes to three hours, with a helmet and knee supports provided. Sunrise and sunset tours include drinks and snacks, and a campfire evening is timed for stargazing under a dark steppe sky. Day trips can take in Hustai National Park's wild horses.
