The definitive take on an East African safari experience

Prolific wildlife viewing in the northern most tip of the Serengeti, combined with relaxed elegance

Location: Singita Mara River Tented Camp sits in a remote corner of the Lamai triangle in northern Serengeti, right on the banks of the Mara River. This is prime Great Migration territory, with front-row access to the iconic river crossings between July and October - a truly spectacular time to be here. But even outside the migration season, the wildlife is outstanding, with healthy populations of predators and resident game. Crucially, this camp is inside the exclusive Singita Grumeti concession, which means no crowds, no jostling for views, and a safari experience that feels wonderfully wild and unhurried. It's the kind of place where the setting speaks for itself.

Rooms: There are just six guest tents at Mara River Camp - including two family suites - all set on wooden platforms with wide decks overlooking the river. The design is airy, modern, and strikingly light-footprint, using canvas, wood, and natural tones that blend beautifully with the environment. Inside, the tents are elegant without being overdone - expert king-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and comfortable lounging areas. The interiors lean toward a pared-back, eco-luxury feel, with solar-powered fans and natural fabrics rather than heavy décor. It's a refined kind of simplicity, designed to let the setting shine.

Amenities: Despite its remote location, the camp offers a high level of comfort. The open-plan main area includes a dining space, lounge, and bar, with views of the river and its ever-changing wildlife activity. Meals are creative and beautifully prepared, with much of the produce sourced from Singita's own community-supported farming projects. Dining is flexible - whether that's a bush breakfast after a morning drive or a candlelit dinner under the stars.

Activities: This is one of the best places in Africa to witness the drama of a Mara River crossing during the migration season. But beyond that, the wildlife viewing is superb, with expert guides offering private or small-group drives across a landscape rich in lions, elephants, giraffes, and more. Because the camp sits within a private concession, you also have access to guided walking safaris and off-road driving - allowing for a more flexible and immersive experience than in the neighbouring national park zones. Birdlife is also abundant along the river, and the camp's peaceful setting makes it ideal for those who like to slow down and take it all in.

Sustainability: Singita Mara River Camp was designed from the ground up as an eco-conscious property. It runs entirely on solar power, uses recycled and upcycled materials wherever possible. and has a strict no single-use plastic policy. Water is filtered on-site, and waste is carefully managed to minimise impact. Beyond its physical footprint, the camp is part of Singita's long-term conservation model, which includes community development, education, anti-poaching efforts, and habitat restoration across the Grumeti reserve. Staying here means contributing directly to the protection of the Serengeti's northern ecosystem, while experiencing one of its most intimate and exclusive camps.
