Isibindi Zulu Lodge

Architecturally inspired by the traditional Zulu beehive

a peaceful bushveld retreat

Beehive suites each named after the mountain that it overlooks in the Battlefield region.

Isibindi Zulu Lodge is situated within the 4000 acre Isibindi Eco-Reserve a five-hour drive South-East of Johannesburg. It offers diverse habitats ranging from montane grassland and valley Thornveld to riverine forests. The reserve is home to abundant indigenous game, morning and evening game drives are offered and there is excellent bird watching. It is also quite safe to walk or take a picnic along one of the meandering river beds and view Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, etc.

The Isibindi Zulu Lodge is a peaceful bushveld retreat with accommodation designed in an architectural celebration of the Zulu nation. Architecturally inspired by the traditional Zulu beehive shape, the six beehive suites offer panoramic views of the game reserve and its diverse habitats ranging from montane grassland to riverine forests. Each suite has its own viewing deck overlooking the game reserve and the surrounding hills like Rorke's Drift. All rooms are en-suite with separate bath and spacious shower. The intricate high thatched ceilings are a work of art. The Honeymoon suite commands views of a particularly game rich area of the reserve and has a romantic sunken stone bath.

They offer a host of activities for those wanting to experience a combination of game viewing, battlefields and Zulu cultural experiences. In the evening, guests can enjoy dinner in a boma during sunset or witness traditional Zulu dances. Morning and evening game drives and walks are offered and there are excellent birding opportunities. Guests are free to walk on the reserve, either with a guide or on their own as there are no predators or Big 5. Isibindi Zulu Lodge is the ideal place from which to explore the surrounding battlefields with expert guides who give a chilling account of the battles of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana. Mountain biking, clay pigeon shooting and river tubing are also available activities at Isinbindi Zulu Lodge!
