Makanyane is named after the African wild dog which roams this part of the veld, it is set in private land, providing exclusive game viewing. At its origin, Australian architect Bruce Stafford created an astonishingly beautiful decked-and-thatched lodge, with 8 super stylish guest suites hugging the banks of the Marico River.
Accommodation at Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge comprises eight luxurious, secluded suites, each overlooking the Marico River. Each suite has spectacular glass-walled bedrooms and a spacious bathroom, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding forest and the river. The stylish main lodge is on the edge of a ravine overlooking a waterhole frequently visited by game and has a spacious lounge and dining area. Fine wines from the award-winning wine list complement exceptional cuisine created by the team of internationally trained chefs. The main lodge provides complimentary Wi-Fi, as well as a curio shop, a library area, and an upstairs den. There is also a spa, an air-conditioned gym and heated infinity swimming pool.
There are two daily game drives at Makanyane, timed to make the most of the periods when the game and birdlife is the most active, one in the early morning and another in the late afternoon. The afternoon drive, after a brief stop to enjoy sundowners, continues into the night, a shielded spotlight revealing the nocturnal wildlife of the bush.
