Hotel Avenida

Hotel Avenida is a family run hotel that offers good, clean and comfy accommodation in the heart of Sao Tome City. This hotel will not be your lasting memory of this amazing country but it does offer location, location, location. Its set on Avenida Residencial which is the street that runs directly behind the President's Palace and if you stand at the entrance you can see Sao Tome's Cathedral. Therefore it gives you easy access to the 'city' without having to rely on taxi's (of which there are not many) so you are free to explore this great place at your leisure and on foot. There are 30 rooms all set on the ground floor and all are en-suite and are air-conditioned. There is hot water aplenty and you will feel that really have arrived in Sao Tome. You are within walking distance of a couple of restaurants like Papa Figos which is popular with the UN staff who are based around the corner.

The onsite restaurant and bar is basic but provides good wholesome dinners of chicken or fish dishes as well as local and Portuguese beer. There are always a few locals in situ regardless of the time of day and you are likely to be in the company of businessmen, politicians or even post church groups. Its a popular place. Breakfast is a fairly standard continental affair with lots of fresh fruit.

There is a swimming pool and a coupe of loungers to soak up the sun.
