Desert Homestead Lodge

Nestled in the shadow of the majestic Naukluft Mountains, Desert Homestead Lodge is one of the most cost-effective properties in the whole of the Sossusvlei Region. With easy access – 20 minutes – drive to the park gate at Sesriem, this is the perfect stopover for self-drivers in this most iconic part of Namibia.

The 26 bedrooms are housed in compact chalets which stretch out in a line away from the main part of the lodge. Inside they are simply furnished, but still very comfortable, with adequate storage space, twin or king beds and en-suite bathrooms, as well as small terraces at the front for relaxing on in the afternoons. The main area of the lodge is a lovely space where guests can socialise with one another, enjoy the hearty meals for which the lodge is renowned and take a drink or two in the cosy bar area. There is also an indoor lounge and outdoor deck for sundowner drinks and alfresco meals if the weather allows. A sparkling swimming pool is found close to the lodge and is a very popular feature, especially during the hot summer afternoons that the Namib desert has.

As well as the traditional Sossusvlei activities – guided or self-guided trips to the dunes and Sesriem Canyon, the lodge offers evening sundowner drinks drives out in to the desert which are wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable. They also offer guided hikes in the Naukluft Mountains and horseriding trails, which can be adapted to allow for overnight camping beneath the stars.
