Hakusembe River Lodge

Nestled on the banks of the Okavango River, on the outskirts of the quirky frontier town of Rundu, Hakusembe River Lodge is the perfect spot for an overnight stay when travelling in to or out of the Caprivi Strip, marking the halfway point between Caprivi and eastern Etosha.

There are 20 rooms at the lodge, split between twin, triple and family rooms, all of which overlook the Okavango River with small decking areas at the front where guests can kick back, relax and enjoy the views. Inside they are very comfortable with mosquito net covered beds, en-suite bathrooms and high thatched ceilings which help to keep the rooms cool, even in the height of summer. Minibars and tea & coffee stations are provided for guests’ comfort. The main area of the lodge is accessed via a walkway over the Okavango River, which adds a dramatic when you enter the lodge. A large open plan lounge area has plenty of space to relax, whilst the restaurant and convivial bar area are always popular with guests. There is a sprawling deck where guests can relax during the afternoons and meals can be served here when the weather allows. There is a lovely swimming pool and terrace area adjacent to the lodge which is shaded by palm trees to provide a welcome respite from the afternoon sun.

The lodge offers a variety of river based activities which guests can book on to locally, including sunset champagne cruises and fishing trips on their custom designed boats. Although guests only usually stay at Hakusembe for a night, the activities are popular so it is definitely worth pre-booking.
