The long road from Nampula (three hours) is well worth making to reach Ossimba Beach Lodge at Nacala Bay in northern Mozambique. The lodge sits on 1.5km of pristine private beach and marine protected coral reef, and is surrounded by 50 hectares of wild bush forest. The lack of palm trees won’t make it feel any less like paradise!
The lodge at Ossimba Beach runs on solar power and utilizes its own bore hole water source. The accommodation comprises eight very spacious villas that have been luxuriously but tastefully decorated. They all have king sized beds and en-suite bathrooms and, though there is no air-conditioning, the fans and ocean breeze combine to keep the air pleasantly cooled. The Ossimba Beach Lodge restaurant serves a mouth-watering fusion of local and international cuisine. There is also an entertainment area which consists of a bar, dining room, and two lounge areas, all with comfortable furnishings and modern fixtures such as Wifi and satellite TV.
The marine life that reside in the warm waters at Ossimba Lodge are best seen up-close by joining a diving excursion. For those not quite ready for a full scuba dive, snorkelling is another excellent way to see the beautifully pristine reef. Kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding are also very popular activities to do in the water, as well as whale watching during the migratory season. Back on land you can explore the bush surroundings with forest walks and bird watching. This is definitely a spot you will want to visit over again!
