Isandlwana Lodge

Isandlwana Lodge

A Zululand getaway almost on the battlefield itself

Situated almost on the battlefield itself

Step back in time, breathe fresh air, and enjoy total relaxation, with sweeping views of Isandlwana Hill.

The Lodge is built on the side of the iNyoni rock formation on top of which the Zulu commander stood during the battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879. Enjoy unparalleled views from the crisp early light of a sparkling Zulu dawn to the splendour of the African sunset. You look straight across the battlefield where 1200 British soldiers met their end at the hands of the Zulu army. For newly-weds Isandlwana Lodge is an original and exciting honeymoon destination, offering the perfect combination of precious time together in the comfort of the lodge or exploring the area on one or more of our tours.

Isandlwana Lodge offers twelve luxury rooms all en-suite and tastefully decorated in a simple mixture of traditional and modern styles. All rooms face the historic and scenically beautiful Isandlwana plain with a view of the mountain. Isandlwana Lodge is the ideal location for executive conferences or team-building getaways, where groups can benefit from unique concepts, developed and built around the battles by the resident historian and superb stroyteller, Rob Gerrard, author and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. For Groups and Families needing something a little bigger, with self-catering facilities, the 3-bedroom Isandlwana Guesthouse can accommodate up to six people.

Well known as an excellent place to visit the famous Anglo-Zulu battlefields, Isandlwana is also a great location to learn more about Zulu culture, and go hiking, horse-riding or birding. Visit Isandlwana Lodge and experience the real Africa with the flagship tours of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Depending on your interests, trained guides from the local community take guests on a walking tour to a Zulu village, to visit a typical Zulu homestead, the historic St. Vincent’s Church, the schools or clinic. The final stop is a fascinating visit to a Sangoma (diviner).
