Eco-conscious lodge set between Outback and Ocean

Discover Sal Salis, an exclusive retreat combining reef adventures, wild bushland, and luxury safari-style comfort.

Location:

Sal Salis Safari Camp is nestled within Cape Range National Park on Western Australia’s North West Cape, just steps from the world‑heritage Ningaloo Reef. It’s located about a one hour drive from Exmouth, and approximately 1 330 km by road north of Perth, so guests tend to fly from Perth into Exmouth-Learmonth Airport.

Rooms:

The camp comprises 15 eco‑luxury Wilderness Tents plus a secluded Honeymoon Tent. Each is raised on a platform among sand dunes, fitted with a comfortable bed, 500‑thread‑count organic linen, an outdoor eco‑bathroom and native‑herb soaps. Fans and bedside USB charging operate with solar‑powered lighting. There is no mobile reception at camp - allowing guests to unplug entirely, but there is an emergency landline in the reception.

Amenities:

At the heart of the camp is The Lodge, a raised communal lounge, small library and 24‑hour self‑service open bar stocked with Western Australian wines, beers and kombucha. All meals, breakfast, lunch, canapés, three‑course dinner, are included and prepared by in‑house chefs using local produce. National park fees, snorkel gear, kayaks, paddle boards, wetsuits and guided activities are also part of the package.

Activities:

A variety of complimentary experiences are offered daily, led by expert guides: drift snorkelling just offshore, sea‑kayaking, stand‑up paddleboarding, bird‑watching and guided gorge walks to Mandu Mandu or Yardie Creek. Seasonal excursions, bookable at extra cost, include swimming with whale sharks, from mid‑March to July or August and humpback whales, July to October.

Sustainability:

Sal Salis is powered entirely by solar energy. Water use is strictly limited - each guest receives 20 litres per day with a 3‑minute shower policy. Composting Natureloos prevent waste run‑off, and no waste escapes into the ecosystem. The camp operates in partnership with Western Australia Parks & Wildlife, contributes 5 % of turnover to conservation, and supports the local Exmouth community and traditional custodians. Organic toiletries and marine‑safe sunscreen are provided

January

A month of extremely hot weather. Celebrate summer on Sydney’s beaches, explore the Great Barrier Reef, or enjoy the Australian Open in Melbourne. Tasmania is also perfect for hiking in mild weather.

February

Very hot, but lively in the southern parts of the country. Head to South Australia for the Adelaide Fringe Festival or Western Australia for the Perth Fringe Festival. Visit Kangaroo Island for wildlife and dramatic coastlines, or dive Ningaloo Reef for manta rays. Northern end is humid and wet.

March

Things start to cool down in the Southeast: enjoy Melbourne’s food and wine scene, hike the Blue Mountains. Alternatively, head north to spot wildlife in Kakadu as the Wet Season eases.

April

Visit Uluru for clear desert skies, explore Margaret River’s wineries, or catch whale sharks at Ningaloo. Tasmania’s wilderness is beautiful in autumn colours.

May

Ideal for the Red Centre and Top End: cooler and drier. Explore Kakadu and Litchfield. Southern states are great for city breaks in Sydney or Melbourne.

June

Ski season starts in the Snowy Mountains. Queensland offers sunny escapes, from the Whitsundays to the Daintree. Western Australia’s Kimberley region is at its best.

July

Perfect time for whale watching along the east coast. Explore Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, or cruise the Kimberley’s remote gorges and waterfalls.

August

Northern Australia is dry and sunny: visit Darwin’s Mindil Markets, Kakadu, and Arnhem Land. Enjoy stargazing at Uluru or explore the Great Barrier Reef islands.

September

Spring blooms in Western Australia’s wildflower regions. Visit Perth, Rottnest Island, or Margaret River. Sydney warms up, perfect for harbour cruises and coastal walks

October

Great time for Sydney’s Sculpture by the Sea and whale watching. Visit Tasmania’s wilderness, or explore Melbourne and the nearby Yarra Valley wineries.

November

Early summer brings perfect conditions for the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef. Explore the Great Ocean Road or enjoy wine regions like Barossa Valley.

December

Celebrate Christmas on the beach in Sydney, Perth, or Adelaide. Watch the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Catch the Ashes cricket tournament in either Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, or Sydney. Tasmania offers hiking, while tropical Queensland is lush and vibrant.
