October Honeymoons

Honeymoons in October

Honeymoon Destinations in October

October is a fantastic month for honeymooners looking to combine adventure, culture, and relaxation. With mild weather in many regions and fewer crowds than the peak summer months, it’s the perfect time to explore both classic destinations and off-the-beaten-track experiences.

For those drawn to natural beauty, Japan’s autumn foliage paints landscapes in vivid reds and golds, creating romantic backdrops for temple visits, scenic walks, and cultural festivals. Mauritius offers the perfect balance of sun, turquoise waters, and luxury resorts for a beachside escape. Meanwhile, Kenya still provides exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly at the tail end of the Great Migration in the Masai Mara.

For a more off-the-beaten-track experience, Madagascar, Bhutan, and Zambia offer unforgettable adventures. From spotting lemurs and whales in Madagascar to trekking Himalayan trails in Bhutan, or enjoying walking safaris and balloon flights in Zambia, these destinations promise intimate and unique experiences for honeymooners.

October also shines as a shoulder-season month. Namibia’s dramatic desert landscapes and Etosha wildlife, and South Africa’s vibrant cities, Winelands, and Kruger safaris make it a versatile choice for couples who want a mix of adventure, culture, and romance.

Best October Honeymoon Destinations

Naoshima Kagawa Japan

Japan

October in Japan is a romantic time to visit, as autumn transforms the landscapes into a vibrant tapestry of red, orange, and gold. Kyoto’s temples and gardens are particularly enchanting, offering couples the perfect backdrop for leisurely strolls and quiet reflection amid the season’s colours. In Tokyo, the Meiji Jingu Festival brings traditional music and dance, adding a cultural spark to your trip, while city Oktoberfest celebrations offer lively dining and drinks for a festive twist. October blends nature, culture, and intimate experiences, making it ideal for a memorable honeymoon.

Serena Camp sundowner Kenya

Kenya

October marks the tail end of the Great Migration in Kenya’s Masai Mara, making it an excellent month for wildlife enthusiasts. Similar to August, the weather is mild with cool temperatures, clear skies, and little rain. The timing of the migration is weather-dependent, so game viewing and river crossings often continue into September as the herds move south towards the Serengeti. With the dry season drawing to a close, the bush thins out, making it easier to spot animals around waterholes and rivers. Crowds start to ease, yet wildlife viewing remains exceptional, and the landscapes are lush following the rains.

Bhutan

October in Bhutan offers mild, comfortable weather as summer transitions into autumn, making it one of the best times for trekking. High-altitude trails such as the Snowman Trek and the Druk Path Trek are accessible, while wildlife enthusiasts can spot takins, red pandas, and a variety of birds in national parks. The season combines outdoor adventure with cultural experiences and stunning autumn landscapes. Traditional Tsechu festivals, featuring masked dances and vibrant costumes, provide an unforgettable insight into Bhutan’s rich heritage.

Wild Dogs South Luangwa Zambia

Zambia

October is an excellent time to explore Zambia’s wild landscapes, particularly South Luangwa National Park, famous for its walking safaris that bring you close to wildlife in their natural habitat. With the arrival of October, temperatures rise and the first hints of the rainy season appear, though the occasional heat can be intense, especially in the Zambezi Valley. Despite this, guides consider it the prime period for game viewing, with predators taking full advantage of easier hunting conditions. Many remote bush camps in core parks, as well as in North Luangwa and Kafue, begin to wind down for the summer. In Kafue, visitors can enjoy unique experiences such as hot air balloon flights over the Busanga Plains. Even though water levels at Victoria Falls are lower, a wide range of activities remains available, ensuring a thrilling and adventurous Zambian escape.

South Africa

October is one of our favourite months to visit South Africa, particularly Cape Town, as temperatures rise and the city begins to prepare for summer. Locals enjoy the final weeks of relative calm before the autumn crowds arrive. The Winelands are equally inviting, with alfresco lunches beneath shady trees and leisurely afternoons by the pool - a cherished local pastime. In Kruger National Park, October offers the last stretch of reliably dry weather, perfect for safaris and wildlife spotting. KwaZulu-Natal also comes alive with vibrant landscapes and diverse wildlife. Whether hiking Table Mountain, savouring world-class wines, or exploring the bush on safari, October provides a varied and rewarding South African experience.

I have just returned from the most amazing trip to Tanzania, booked with Far & Wild. Everything went so smoothly from the first time I spoke with them. The planning was great, the itinerary was perfect for us, and the lodges were amazing. We spent 10 nights with an amazing guide, travelling through Northern Tanzania and even got to see the migration, which was a lifetime ambition of mine. This wasn't our first safari, so we were nervous as to how it would compare, but it was spot on. I will certainly be using them again to book our next trip....we're thinking of a relaxing beach stay next time to get over the excitement of safari!

Just back from another amazing F&W organised trip to Namibia with the family (8 adults). Having been there before, Alistair tailored our trip to include our favourite locations and added a new one for us, which we loved. The quality of accommodation and guiding, activities, food and drinks was exceptional throughout. It was good value for the level of luxury we had.

We had a wonderful trip to São Tomé and Príncipe - a small island nation in the Gulf of Guinea with paradise (almost empty) beaches and jungle forest. It was all well organised by Far and Wild and we stayed at a great combination of different types of resorts/hotels. We really recommend this for those who want to experience a pristine destination with few other tourists and friendly and welcoming people. The islands also feel very safe. At Principe, there are no dangerous animals, snakes or whatever, and it was great to be able to hike in the jungle without being very conscious of where to put your hands and feet. Go before everyone else does!

Back home again, basking in the joys of a superb safari. Every aspect you arranged for us, including linking up with Mack Air and Wild Horizons locally to transport us. The choice of camps was ideally situated, comfortable, in good surroundings, and with excellent wildlife on the doorstep and throughout the wider country. The service staff in each looked after us very well, catering was excellent, and the game guides were professional, knowledgeable and helpful. You made us happy, and we recommend you to similar safari enthusiasts with confidence.

Wow! These guys are amazing. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Friendly AND efficient! Sorted out our trip (last minute and lots of different family member needs, sorry!) in record time and everything worked like clockwork. Trip of a lifetime to the Masai Mara. Will be back (and use F&W again!)!
