One of our favourite honeymoon destinations
Colombia feels alive with romance and charm
Colombia is one of South America’s most vibrant and varied honeymoon destinations. It’s full of rhythm and warmth, where every day brings something new.
Cartagena is often where honeymoons begin, and it’s easy to see why. The old town is pure magic: pastel facades draped in bougainvillaea, cobbled streets made for slow evening walks, and rooftop terraces perfect for sunset cocktails. Beyond the city walls, you can sail to the Rosario Islands for white sands, turquoise water, and laid-back Caribbean luxury.
Inland, Bogotá adds a splash of cosmopolitan energy with its museums, galleries, and exceptional restaurants. It’s a city that surprises many couples: creative, modern, and full of life. From here, it’s an easy hop to the Coffee Triangle, where rolling green hills and charming fincas offer a more peaceful rhythm. Wake to birdsong and mountain mist, explore plantations together, and learn about Colombia’s most famous export before relaxing by a pool surrounded by palms and orchids.
For those drawn to wilder landscapes, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Caribbean Colombia combine rainforest, mountains, and sea in a way that feels almost dreamlike. You can hike through lush jungle, meet local communities, and unwind on hidden beaches lapped by warm waves.
Further off the beaten path, Nuquí and the Chocó Coast offer true seclusion. Think whale watching, natural hot springs, and candlelit dinners with only the sound of the Pacific for company.

Our Colombia honeymoon specialist, Amanda, says
"Colombia is one of my favourite countries to suggest for a honeymoon because it has such a beautiful mix of culture, colour, and coastline. You can spend a few days wandering through Cartagena’s flower-filled streets and then head inland to the Coffee Triangle for peaceful countryside and incredible food. It’s got that perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, and the people are genuinely some of the warmest you’ll ever meet."

Columbia Family Holiday FAQs
Planning a Columbia family holiday? Our experts share advice on everything from what to pack, when to go, to tips for families, covering the questions we get asked the most.
Is Colombia a good destination for a honeymoon?
Absolutely. Colombia offers a rare mix of culture, nature, and coastline, all within relatively short distances. You can pair the romance of Cartagena with the calm, green landscapes of the Coffee Triangle, and finish on the Caribbean coast. It’s varied, vibrant, and feels genuinely different to more traditional honeymoon destinations.
When is the best time to visit Colombia for a honeymoon?
Colombia is a year-round destination, but December to March and July to August tend to be the driest periods in many regions. That said, weather varies by area, so it’s more about planning your route carefully. We often suggest combining regions like Medellín and the coast to make the most of different microclimates.
How long should we spend in Colombia?
Around 10 to 14 days works well for a honeymoon. This gives you time to explore a few contrasting regions without rushing, perhaps combining Cartagena, the Coffee Triangle, and a few nights on the Caribbean coast. If you have longer, you can slow the pace or add in somewhere more off the beaten track.
Is Colombia safe for honeymooners?
Colombia has changed enormously over the past decade and is now firmly on the map as a rewarding and welcoming destination. Like anywhere, it’s about travelling smart, but with the right guidance and well-planned logistics, it feels relaxed and easy. The warmth of the people is often what couples remember most.
Can we combine Colombia with another destination?
Yes, and it works particularly well. Some couples pair Colombia with somewhere like Costa Rica for more wildlife, or extend into Peru for a contrast in landscapes and history. Equally, Colombia on its own has more than enough depth for a rich, varied honeymoon.
