A palatial heritage manor that feels like a home from home, with spectacular views and an idyllic infinity pool.
Location: Built in 1804 by the Chief Minister of the Kandyan Kingdom, Kandy House is a historic ancestral manor set in a secluded hillside spot just outside Kandy. Surrounded by Sri Lanka's lush paddy fields and tropical gardens, it feels both peaceful and romantic, making it an ideal choice for honeymooners.
Rooms: The house has been lovingly restored, blending elegant antiques with contemporary comforts. With only nine beautifully styled rooms, staying here feels more like being a guest in a private home than at a hotel, with plenty of charm and character throughout.
Amenities: Guests can unwind in the infinity pool overlooking the valley or book an Ayurvedic massage with the resident therapist, who has more than 25 years of experience. The atmosphere is intimate, tranquil, and designed to help you relax completely. Dining at Kandy House is a highlight, with a mix of European and Sri Lankan cuisine. Twice a week, guests can indulge in a feast of ten traditional curries, showcasing the best of local flavours. Ingredients are sourced fresh from nearby markets, and private lunches can be served on your terrace.
Activities: Take a stroll to Udawattekele Sanctuary, just two miles away, or explore Kandy by bicycle through paddy fields and local villages. In town, highlights include the Temple of the Tooth, the Buddhist Museum, the National Museum, and the colonial British Garrison Cemetery.
Sustainability: Kandy House places emphasis on sourcing locally, from fresh produce at nearby markets to the skills of local artisans and staff. By preserving its historic architecture and promoting traditional cuisine, the property ensures its legacy is shared while supporting the surrounding community.
