Somalisa has set the benchmark for luxury safaris in Zimbabwe, with outstanding guides, superb food and a wonderful location
Found in the heart of the Hwange National Park, Somalisa Camp is one of the best-located camps within the park and offers guests true understated luxury, blending the feel of a traditional safari lodge with modern touches to make for a truly wonderful place to stay in Zimbabwe.
There are 7 rooms at the lodge which are in modern style “sail” tents, with sweeping canvas rooves and private decks at the front where guests can relax. Inside they are very spacious and have all of the comforts one would associate with a modern safari, but with nice traditional touches such as freestanding copper baths and wood burning stoves, perfect for cold winter nights. The main are of the lodge is a lovely open-plan lounge and dining area which houses the bar at one end and leads out on to an open decking area with a firepit. A step down from there is the swimming pool, a great spot to relax in the afternoons and enjoy the views out across the plains and to the nearby waterhole.
Game drives and guided walks are the main activities on offer from the camp, with the hugely experienced guides giving guests wonderful encounters with Hwange’s varied wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, hyena and giraffe as well as sable and roan antelope.
