Arabesque design camp with panoramic views over the East Bank of the Nile on the northern boundary of Murchison Falls National Park.
Location
Fort Murchison Lodge sits on the eastern banks of the Albert Nile, just outside the northern boundary of Murchison Falls National Park. Its elevated position provides wide views across the river and surrounding wilderness while offering convenient access to the park’s wildlife areas and game drive routes. The lodge lies close to Tangi Gate and is roughly a six-hour drive from Kampala or a short transfer from Pakuba Airstrip.
Rooms
The lodge offers 12 spacious en-suite rooms, each styled with a blend of African and Swahili influences. Rooms include comfortable double or twin beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms with solar-heated hot showers, writing desks and private balconies with sofas overlooking the river landscape. In addition to the main rooms, the lodge also provides thatched safari tents for guests seeking a more budget-friendly option, furnished with twin beds and shared ablution facilities nearby.
Facilities
Facilities centre around a restaurant, bar and rooftop terrace, one of the best spots for sunset views across the Albert Nile. Meals are freshly prepared using local produce, with bread baked on site and fruits and vegetables grown in the lodge’s own garden. Guests can also enjoy a swimming pool, landscaped gardens and relaxed lounge areas designed to capture the panoramic river views.
Activities
Fort Murchison provides an excellent base for exploring Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area. Guests can join guided game drives in search of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions and antelope across the park’s savannah plains. Other highlights include boat cruises along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, fishing excursions, birdwatching and hikes to viewpoints overlooking the dramatic waterfall where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge.
Sustainability
Fort Murchison Lodge incorporates a number of eco-conscious practices designed to reduce its environmental footprint while supporting local communities. The property uses solar energy for hot water and electricity, reducing reliance on fossil fuels in this remote area. A kitchen garden and fruit orchard supply part of the restaurant’s produce, helping minimise food transport and supporting sustainable sourcing. Local staff form the core of the lodge team, providing employment opportunities and training for nearby communities.
