Location
Bwindi Lodge is set on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park near the Buhoma sector, overlooking a forested valley that forms part of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by dense rainforest, the lodge enjoys a spectacular setting with views across the canopy, while remaining close to the park headquarters and the starting point for gorilla trekking excursions. The area is also rich in birdlife and other forest wildlife.
Rooms
The lodge features 10 spacious bandas, including standard forest rooms and larger deluxe suites. Each is constructed from wood, stone and canvas, designed to blend naturally with the forest surroundings. Rooms offer en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds with mosquito nets and private verandas with panoramic views across the rainforest canopy, providing a peaceful retreat after a day of trekking.
Facilities
The main lodge building is positioned on a raised deck with sweeping views across the valley. Facilities include a restaurant and bar serving locally inspired cuisine, a comfortable lounge area and outdoor viewing decks where guests can relax and watch the forest below. The lodge also features the Bwindi Bar, a social hub for drinks and storytelling after trekking, along with a small spa offering massages and treatments.
Activities
The highlight of any stay is mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Guided forest walks, birdwatching excursions and community visits to nearby villages can also be arranged. Guests may also visit the Bwindi Community Hospital, a well-known local initiative supported by conservation tourism in the region.
Sustainability
Working in partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and local conservation groups, the lodge supports responsible tourism practices that help safeguard habitat for mountain gorillas, forest elephants and a rich diversity of birds and primates. A significant proportion of staff are recruited from surrounding villages, and ongoing training in hospitality, guiding and conservation awareness ensures skills and incomes remain rooted in the local economy. The lodge supports the Bwindi Community Hospital and other community programmes.
