Wonderful accommodation and service in an ideal setting for gorilla
On farmland by the Munyanga River looking directly towards the rainforest Mahogany Springs lodge provides an idyllic setting. The main building has a substantial terrace from where guests can hear the calming sounds of the river nearby. There is a spacious restaurant, or, when weather is good, guests may choose to dine on the terrace outside. Private dinners and bush breakfasts are provided on request.
There are twin, double or triple superior rondavels. All are spacious and airy with double-doors and private terrace; large en-suite bathrooms and open terracotta showers. There is a honeymoon suite which has a bath in addition to a shower. The family/presidential suite has two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. (Both rooms can be converted into twin or even triple if needed). Guests are encouraged to plant an endemic tree as part of a reforestation programme run by the lodge, which aims to help guests offset some carbon from their travels. The lodge supports Ride4aWoman, which assists widows to provide for their families by means of skill training and by providing equipment such as sewing machines. The lodge contracts the ladies to do plenty of work for the property, such as making curtains, mosquito nets, cushions, clothing, lampshades and more. The lodge has also sponsored Sascu, an orphanage in Kampala to which it donates clothing and educational supplies.
Activities include gorilla tracking, bird watching, nature walks and a visit to the Batwa tribe known as the Pygmies For relaxation guests can relax in a private area by the river, enjoy a bush or river breakfast and dinner, or indulge in a full body massage after a hard day of trekking.
