Cederberg Mountains Vacations

As you drive north from Cape Town the landscape changes from lush, green vineyards to more barren, open plains until you reach the beautiful Cederberg Mountains. The area is characterised by very traditional small towns, the most prominent being Clanwilliam, which is a great spot to spend a few nights to explore the area. Generally quiet throughout the year, the area suddenly blooms in August and September as the landscape becomes carpeted in spring flowers of all colours, with the towns and wilderness reserves suddenly a hive of activity welcoming keen botanists from across the globe coming on Cederberg wild flower tours.

Deeper into the mountains you’ll find a number of nature reserves, where all manner of activities can be enjoyed. The area is home to several hugely important bushman rock art sites, some dating back over 10,000 years and you will have the chance to visit these with an expert local guide. Whilst wildlife is sparse, it can be seen, with some visitors lucky enough to spot elusive leopard stalking across the plains.

Just two hours from Cape Town, this is a wonderfully diverse area and somewhere we highly recommend for visitors looking to see a different side of South Africa away from the main tourist hotspots.
