Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Into the Hajar Mountains

Alila Jabal Akhdar Mountain View Suite

After enjoying breakfast, you will meet your English speaking local driver-guide who will be with you for the next five days, in a Toyota Prado 4WD. After introductions you will start your transfer journey to Alila Jabal Akhdar, travelling via Nakhl, Wadi Bani Awf and Bilad Sayt, a beautiful journey surrounded by rugged landscapes.

You’ll be greeted by a hotel representative who will take you to your mountain view suite, perched 2000 metres above sea level in the Hajar Mountains. You’ll be staying here the next three nights on half board basis.

Day 2 Life in the Mountains

Bahla Fort In Oman

Today you will see some of Oman’s mountain highlights, as well as discovering the history and culture of the country. Bahla Fort is your first stop, and what a stop it is, being the only fort in the whole country to have UNESCO World Heritage status. It's a must for anyone visiting Oman.

Your next stop is the spectacular Jabreen Castle. Different from other Omani forts, this castle was constructed in times of peace by a ruler whose fascination with science and art made this the most beautiful historic castle in the Sultanate. A perfect spot to explore the differences in Oman’s history.

The final two locations you’ll visit today are Misfah, a mountainous village with agricultural terraces and old houses, and Jebel Shams Peak, the highest point in the Hajar range.

January

January is a great time to visit Oman, temperatures are cooler averaging 25 degrees, with the occasional rainfall. The humid weather allows you to enjoy Muscat's amazing beaches and fresh waters.

February

February has pleasant weather with temperatures rarely climbing above 30 degrees. During this month Oman celebrates one of its largest festivals, Muscat Festival - a cultural, musical and natural celebration attracting tourists from over the world.

March

In March temperatures rise, meaning it is the perfect time to venture into the desert, enjoying stargazing, camel rides and meeting local Bedouin tribes. If you love flowers in the Jebel Akkdar Mountains it is rose blooming season providing incredible scenery.

April

During this time of year, roses bloom in the Jebel Akkdar Mountains providing incredible scenery. Temperatures reach up to 35 degrees, so escaping to the cooler mountain highlands to visit cultural forts and villages is perfect.

May

During May temperatures are high reaching up to 38 degrees with lower humidity levels, if you're looking to visit cultural sites it is best to avoid May. However, if you're looking to relax by a pool May is perfect.

June

June is excessively hot and humid in Oman, it is not recommended that you visit during this time. However, if you want to brave the high temperatures, hotel prices across the country are cheap.

August

August remains excessively hot and humid in Oman, it is not recommended that you visit during this time.

September

September offers an amazing opportunity to witness green turtle breeding season in Ras Al Jinz, as they come to lay their eggs. Temperatures remain high, although lower than between June and August.

October

Travelling during October is much more comfortable with temperatures now in the low thirties. Travellers can enjoy different desert trips, cultural tours of castles forts and mountain villages.

November

Travelling during November is much more comfortable with temperatures now in the low thirties allowing you to enjoy Oman's cultural wonders.

  • 18th November the country celebrates Sultan Qaboos birth month - all regions and governorates celebrate and the country is decorated accordingly.

December

December is the coolest month of the year, and provides another great opportunity for thrill seekers to experience the Arabian desert and the traditional Bedouin lifestyle.

I have just returned from the most amazing trip to Tanzania, booked with Far & Wild. Everything went so smoothly from the first time I spoke with them. The planning was great, the itinerary was perfect for us, and the lodges were amazing. We spent 10 nights with an amazing guide, travelling through Northern Tanzania and even got to see the migration, which was a lifetime ambition of mine. This wasn't our first safari, so we were nervous as to how it would compare, but it was spot on. We're particularly grateful that she suggested a private 'bush lunch' in the Ngorongoro Crater as the public picnic spot was very busy! I will certainly be using them again to book our next trip....we're thinking of a relaxing beach stay next time to get over the excitement of safari!

Just back from another amazing F&W organised trip to Namibia with the family (8 adults). Having been there before, Alistair tailored our trip to include our favourite locations and added a new one for us, Okonjima Plains camp, which we loved. The quality of accommodation and guiding, activities, food and drinks was exceptional throughout. Although not inexpensive I felt it was good value for the level of luxury we had. Kwessi Dunes, Shipwreck lodge, Ongava, Okonjima with pit stops Windhoek (city tour recommended ), Swakopmund (Sandwich Harbour and Walvis Bay tour) and Grootberg lodge (best sundowner drive )

We had a wonderful trip to São Tomé and Príncipe - a small island nation in the Gulf of Guinea with paradise (almost empty) beaches and jungle forest. It was all well organised by Far and Wild and we stayed at Omali lodge at Sao Tome, then on Roca Sundy, and Sunday Praia at Principe - a great combination of different types of resorts/hotels. Omali is close to Sao Tome town with its colonial buildings, markets, hustle and bustle. Roca Sunday gives an old plantation experience and Sundy Praia a luxury beach experience. Very friendly (from time to time a bit slow) service, great fresh food, specifically if you like fish/seafood, vegetables and fruits (almost all sourced locally). Nice temperature between 23 and 30 degrees Celsius, nice swimming conditions. We really recommend this for those who want to experience a pristine destination with few other tourists and friendly and welcoming people. The islands also feel (and I believe are) very safe. At Principe, there are no dangerous animals, snakes or whatever, and it was great to be able to hike in the jungle without being very conscious of where to put your hands and feet. Go before everyone else does!

Back home again, basking in the joys of a superb safari. Every aspect you arranged for us, including linking up with Mack Air and Wild Horizons locally to transport us. The choice of camps, Camp Hwange in Zimbabwe and Muchenenje Safari Lodge in Botswana, was spot on and exactly what we had hoped for - ideally situated, comfortable, in good surroundings, and with excellent wildlife on the doorstep and throughout the wider country. The service staff in each looked after us very well, catering was excellent, and the game guides were professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The weather was, as usual for that part of the world, also good at the time of our visit. Blue skies and stunning sunsets. Warm but not too hot during the day, although quite cold at sunrise when viewing game. The viewing started. You made us happy, and we recommend you to similar safari enthusiasts with confidence.

Wow! These guys are amazing. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Friendly AND efficient! Sorted out our trip (last minute and lots of different family member needs, sorry!) in record time and everything worked like clockwork. Trip of a lifetime to the Masai Mara. Will be back (and use F&W again!)!
