Safari by land and by water
Rhino Safari Camp provides its guests with home comforts whilst also creating a feeling of being at one with the surrounding bush.
This remote camp, located on the banks of Lake Kariba and in the wilderness of Matusadona National Park, could not be further removed from the concrete jungles and hustle and bustle of city life. While Lake Kariba is man-made, the surrounding bush has remained in its natural state, scarcely touched by human activity. The camp's seclusion and close proximity to a permanent water source means that there is a huge variety of animals that call the area home, including the Big Five. One of Zimbabwe's protected areas, Matusadona has healthy populations of black rhino. The camp is accessed by air charter or by boat.
Accommodation consists of six separate chalets raised on stilts, each one providing guests with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Each room contains twin beds and private outdoor bathroom facilities with hot and cold water. The main area is an open-sided building, with two levels and a thatched roof. Upstairs, on a spacious, elevated platform is a lounge and dining area, where guests can enjoy stunning views across Lake Kariba. Downstairs is another dining area as well as a bar, buffet area and camp seating area. There is also an outdoor swimming pool.
Activities include game drives in the morning and afternoons, during which, as well as providing ample wildlife sightings and photograph opportunities, your guide will share his extensive knowledge on the surrounding bush and its inhabitants. Alternatively, you can go on a boat excursion along the shoreline of Lake Kariba, where you may spot hippos and crocodiles. Bush walks and fishing activities are also available. Evenings are usually spent sat around the campfire, chatting about the days events. The lack of light pollution means that this is also a good time to stargaze.
